When it comes to the very best foldable phones, Samsung’s name tends to be one of the first that comes to mind. While the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a fairly iterative update over its predecessor, it does make some notable improvements to AI features, durability, and more. The return of the rotating bezel

With all the new smart rings launched this year, I might be maxing out open fingers. Yet, I’m already looking ahead to what Samsung might deliver with a potential Samsung Galaxy Ring 2. Building on the foundation of its first smart ring, the company’s next model is rumored to bring advanced health sensors, a longer-lasting battery, and more size options for a better fit. If these early reports are accurate, the Galaxy Ring 2 could be a compelling step forward for the whole smart ring market.

True week-long battery (at least)

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is a top contender in the smartwatch market, offering excellent GPS tracking, solid battery life, and comprehensive health monitoring, but the device isn’t perfect. My mind is already on a potential Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, and I can’t help but wonder what improvements Samsung might bring to the table. With the possibility of a follow-up device, here’s everything I hope to see in the new generation (and everything we know so far).

Improved aesthetics

Original article: Even if you love it and still use it daily, there’s no denying that the Nintendo Switch is getting old. Launched in 2017, the hybrid console celebrated its seventh birthday in March, which means it’s getting close to retirement. With this in mind, one can’t help but wonder: where is the sequel, presumably called the Nintendo Switch 2?

Thankfully, Nintendo has confirmed that a successor is coming soon. There have also been some rumors and leaks surrounding the sequel to Nintendo’s best-selling home console. We’ve rounded up the most trustworthy of them here. Towards the end of the article, we also have a few wishlist items — things we hope to see but don’t have any evidence for quite yet.

Smart displays have been around for years now, but the product category hasn’t seen the same level of momentum as smart speakers and security cameras. Apple may be hoping to change that, at least if recent rumors prove true. A recent report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims the company plans to tackle the smart home market in a bigger way with the introduction of several new products, including a home accessory widely speculated to be an Apple Smart Home Display.

If Apple is indeed working on its own smart home display, there are a few things I’d like to see from such a device if it wants to succeed where its contemporaries haven’t. Below is my wishlist and everything we currently know about the rumored display.

Better charging speeds

OPPO might not be very well known in the States, but that doesn’t change the fact that it has produced quite a few unique, memorable Android phones over the years. The OPPO Find X7 Ultra definitely fits that bill, thanks to its powerful quad-camera setup. There’s a lot to like about the X7 Ultra; it’s too bad we can’t experience it. The Find X series has so far remained a China exclusive. But what about its successor? Here’s to hoping it could have a wider release for a change. With that in mind, here’s what I’d like to see from the OPPO Find X8 Ultra.

Please release the darn thing outside of China!

Apple’s iPhone SE range has long been the most affordable new iPhone series you can buy. Coming in at under $500, these handsets still bring a powerful processor, water resistance, and wireless charging.

While the Motorola Edge Plus series has received a lot of praise from Android Authority and other tech reviewers, the mid-range Edge has often had a more mixed reception. We gave it positive marks in 2023, but we had more complaints about the follow-up Motorola Edge (2024). Even if I find it hard to get excited about that one, maybe Motorola’s next swing will strike a little closer to the mark. With that in mind, here’s what I’m hoping to see from the Motorola Edge (2025).

Better performance is needed from a mid-ranger in 2024 and beyond

The Motorola Edge (2024) saw some positive changes, but others sounded better on paper than in reality. While the Edge moved away from MediaTek chips, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 that powers the 2024 model was never a flawless performer. This decision was even more disappointing when you consider that this chip was at the very end of its shelf life, with new Gen 3 models right around the corner.

Today’s smart speakers owe a lot to the original Amazon Echo, so every new flagship Echo model is anticipated by industry watchers — it tends to set the bar for whatever follows. The 4th gen Echo, released in 2020, kept up that track record. Four years later, it’s time to work out what we want from an overdue 5th gen speaker, especially with pressure mounting from companies like Apple, Google, and Sonos. Here’s a wishlist of what I’d like to see.

Dolby Atmos and other home theater improvements

The Fairphone 5 represented a major step forward for the sustainable phone company. While it improved upon many of its predecessor’s shortcomings, it was far from perfect. Not only were there battery life and heat dissipation concerns, but there were also a few other areas where it fell short as an Android phone. Although its successor is still a long way off, here’s my wishlist for what I’d like to see in the Fairphone 6.

Better thermals are a must

Update: September 16, 2024 (5:08PM ET): We have updated our PlayStation 6 rumor hub with information regarding the maker of the console’s chip.

Sony launched the PlayStation 5 during the holiday season of 2020. Not only was the PS5 more powerful than the PS4, but it also offered a variety of features not available in the prior generation, like a high-speed SSD, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, 3D audio support, and more. Not to mention, the new DualSense was the biggest departure in PlayStation’s history regarding controller design.

Update: September 13, 2024 (2:23 PM ET): We’ve updated this PlayStation 5 Pro rumor hub with official details from the PS5 Pro announcement, as well as a leak that reveals a few more details.

Original article: The PS4 Pro was only a slight iteration of the PS4. It used the same controller, played the same games, and had all the same features. Its main reason for existing was to allow for smoother gameplay, 4K support across various games, and a few other quality-of-life upgrades. Will the PS5 Pro be similar, only offering slight improvements?

It’s no secret that Sony hasn’t been as significant a player in the mobile space as it is in many of its other technological endeavors. A lot of this is because Sony tends to go its own direction — for better or worse. When the rest of the world moved over to glass, Sony clung to metal longer than anyone else. Over the years, it has also experimented with unique aspect ratios, pushed 4K displays over other more popular features, and retained unique extras like a headphone jack and microSD expansion.

Although these differences helped it build a small but loyal following, the Xperia series didn’t make much of a splash among mainstream consumers — until the release of the Sony Xperia 1 VI. Despite its limited availability, the Xperia 1 VI is a major step in the right direction for the company, leaving me hopeful for what’s next. Even though the Xperia 1 VI is only a few months old, I can’t help but dream about what’s coming. Here’s my wishlist for the Sony Xperia 1 VII.

The Samsung Galaxy A35 was just released back in April, so it still has plenty of life ahead of it. I was already pretty impressed by the latest iteration, and there are just a few small changes that would turn this good budget phone an amazing one. With that said, here’s my wishlist for the Galaxy A36 when it inevitably arrives next year.

The Galaxy A36 should add wireless charging

You can only expect so much from a truly budget phone, but the Galaxy A35 retails for around $400, positioning it as more of a mid-ranger. Let’s be real here; there are a lot of other cheap phones around this price range that already offer wireless charging, such as the Moto G Power and the Google Pixel 7a. To be fair, there are also numerous models that still don’t offer wireless charging, but I think the Galaxy A36 should finally add it. After all, this would only better help the phone stand out amid a sea of competitors.

The idea of an iPhone Flip or a foldable iPhone has been floated around for a while. Many previous rumors and reports suggested Apple might bring a foldable display to its iPad series before experimenting with similar form factors for the iPhone. While it’s possible this could still happen, renewed rumors claim Apple is working on an iPhone with a foldable display, something similar in form factor to the Galaxy Z Flip series.

According to the current rumor mill, this iPhone Flip device could arrive as soon as 2026 or 2027. With that in mind, below, here’s what I’d like to see from Apple’s first foldable phone.

Before the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 ever became official, rumors were suggesting the company would launch a larger model called the Galaxy Fold 6 Ultra. While this model didn’t appear at Samsung Unpacked, the rumor mill claims another Fold variant is on its way. Currently has a low-contrast display, it could use an AMOLED

The Chromecast with Google TV was a major game-changer when it first arrived back in 2020. It represented the evolution of Chromecast from a simple casting device into a powerful Android TV streamer with a new Google TV interface, a remote, and plenty of other new features. Four years later, the streamer still works quite well but is definitely starting to show its age. Earlier this year I had the opportunity to review the Onn 4K Pro.

This device had me excited, as it seemed like a foregone conclusion the next Chromecast might offer many of the same features like a remote finder and hands-free voice control. Then Google announced the Google TV Streamer, a device that is a definite upgrade to the Chromecast but takes a form that’s quite a bit different from what we previously knew and loved. So where there ever be a new Chromecast again? Here’s what we know.

Although the ROG Ally X was released in 2024, but the company has already confirmed that it sees this as more of a mid-range refresh than a true successor to its original Ally hardware. While it might still be a long way off, here’s our wishlist for the ASUS ROG Ally 2.

Battery life needs improvement

The Amazon Kindle received a major update in 2022. The display was improved, charging speeds became faster, and even the storage was upgraded. The Amazon Kindle 11 is as close to perfection from an e-reader as we’ve ever seen, but there are at least a few small changes I’d love to see in the future. The Amazon Kindle lineup needs a revamp, and a simplified naming structure

Recently, Amazon announced that the Kindle Oasis is now retired in the US, likely due to dwindling interest and the narrowing differences between Kindle’s various product lines. This decision leaves us with just three Kindle lines: the Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Scribe. While the latter stands out as more than just an e-reader, doubling as a virtual notebook, the same cannot be said for the first two. Back in 2022, the Amazon Kindle incorporated nearly every major feature from the Paperwhite series, except for the larger display, IPX8 waterproof rating, and the absence of a wireless charging option. I’d love to see Amazon push even further with the next Amazon Kindle iteration.

My household is almost exclusively a Google TV family, , though I do have a Roku, Fire Stick, and an Apple TV device for moments I want to mess around with another platform. Of these, Apple TV is one of my favorite alternatives. I also appreciate that Apple seems to be a bit more frequent with updates and major new features than most other streaming devices. The Sony Xperia 5 V was one of the most powerful compact phones released in 2023 and yet for many of us, it wasn’t even an option, as Sony chose to only launch the Sony Xperia 1 V in the United States. While there’s still a possibility that the Xperia 5 V might come to the US later, it might be too late, given the arrival of powerful new flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

It’s unclear if the US will ever see Sony’s compact flagship again, especially since we now know the Xperia 1 VI isn’t coming to the US either. Regardless, there are a few things I’d like to see improved. With that in mind, here’s my wishlist for what I’d like to see in the Sony Xperia 5 VI in 2024.

Newer flagship processor

While the Surface Duo 2 debuted with the Snapdragon 888 — the top chipset then — the company could consider opting for an older SoC as it did on the original model. If Microsoft presented a device with dated hardware at the same price as its contemporaries, especially given the proven devices in the category, I’d have reservations.

While I prefer Android, I can’t overlook the significant improvements iOS has made in recent years. Some of its major updates, like the widespread adoption of widgets, may not be groundbreaking for those of us familiar with Google’s OS, but Apple’s OS undoubtedly showcases a level of polish and refinement not always present in every Android skin. Released late last year, iOS 17 introduced a host of enhancements, including new contact posters, simplified contact sharing, and more. Although it was a substantial update, I’m eager to see even more meaningful changes in 2024. Let’s explore my wishlist for iOS 18, along with everything we currently know from the latest rumors.

iOS 18: Features we want to see

In the last few updates, Apple has focused a lot on customization, which is something I’d like to see pushed even further. While I’d love to see sideloading come to the US, it’s also important to be realistic here. That’s not happening until Apple is forced to. Most of what I want to see is a few better customizations and an AI overhaul. Let’s dive in.

There’s little denying that iPads are the best tablets around, especially in terms of app support. Although I prefer Android phones, I’ll admit my household has a combination of Android and iPad tablets. While the tablet experience on Android has improved a little in recent years, the reality is that it still trails behind iPadOS in many ways. There’s a lot to like about iPadOS 17, and odds are the experience will only get better in 2024 with the next iteration.
